There is no way the powers that be allow the Texans to win this game. Swifties not only win, they cover, and my prop bet is the Texans lose the
penalty count by 6 or more.

And if by some miracle the game is close, there WILL be a controversial call, or two, that does NOT favor the Texans, guaranteed.

This is so much of a done deal to me that I don’t even care about breaking down what the Texans need to do to win. It ain’t happening. Not even going to blame the OL, QB, Slowik, nothing.

Go ahead and tear me a new one in your replies. Tell me how I think the Texans shouldn’t even game plan then or even make the trip to KC, or tell me I shouldn’t stick my head up my ass that far with a tinfoil hat on, blah, blah, blah. My response is watch what happens Saturday, then check back with me.

History says the Texans will lose this week. An unbiased prediction by me says the Chiefs continue their dynasty and move on to the conference title game.

But if there’s one thing I know… it’s that I am frequently wrong when making predictions. And sooner or later the Texans will kick down that divisional round door and end up playing in the conference championship game.

This Saturday is their next opportunity to do that… might as well get it done this week!

One key loss for the Texans going into this game:

No Tank. The first Chiefs game was Tank’s best of the season… until the injury.

I think we are all hoping Diontae Johnson gets more snaps this week. The Chiefs did a good job taking away the big play to Nico in the first matchup and the Texans countered by going to Tank with success. Then once Tank was out the offense stalled.

I think Diontae presents the same matchup problems to the Chiefs and I hope the Texans can find a way to exploit that this week.

One key addition for the Texans going into this game:

Azeez. I think Azeez being back will prevent those pesky RB dumpoff big plays the Chiefs had to Perine in the first game. 3 catches for 50 yards for their backup RB and it seemed each catch was a back breaker.

We also know this Texans team listens to the media narrative. Look at the Rex Ryan jabs postgame. I know everybody does to an extent but a young team like the Texans moreso. And I think the narrative around Mahomes’ high ankle sprain last time they played the Chiefs gave them a false sense of security about his ability to scramble and create, which ultimately led to him making some key plays with his legs. Hopefully the Texans are ready to shut that down this time.

The defense just needs to keep playing the way they have been playing. Stay solid against the run, pass rush, keep eyes on Mahomes using his legs, and avoid giving up the big play. Also, please defend the middle of the field.

We need more 2nd half CJ from this past weekend. We cannot afford a slow start again. No silly turnovers or penalties that kill momentum. Diontae Johnson can be an important contributor so hopefully that chemistry is building. CJ should use his legs when necessary as well because he is faster than people think. A big special teams play would be nice as well. This is going require all three phases.

KC is KC. There is nothing new or special about what they do. They just execute consistently and find ways to do a little more than their opponents. Close games, ugly games, shootouts. They just find a way. We have to line up and play clean football to have a shot. The Texans aren't going to be favored or taken seriously no matter how far we go in the playoffs, so it's up to them to prove people wrong.

Ray, is that you?

Great timing. I’m sitting here reading your post and a caller into 790 named Ray just said the same. I’ve seen enough to agree with you and a perfect example is KC RT Jawaan Taylor and his free pass to a false start. This weekend I watched that same OL move flagged just about every time, but Taylor gets away with it. They’re in the tank for KC, ya gotta blow them out.

The matchup I preferred. You can bet your ass this team wanted a second shot at them. I expect a hard fought close game with the Texans having the chance to win it.

Texans 27
Chiefs 23

The Texans just lost to the Chiefs in KC by 8 last month. While the Texans have played 12 of their 18 games by a margin of 8 or less, the Chiefs have played to a margin of 8 or less in 11 of their 17 games. The numbers suggest it might be a tad closer. But considering home field, the respective records, and the Chiefs past success, the Texans getting +8 seems reasonable.

Regarding the penalties, the Texans have had more penalties or penalty yardage in 11 of their 18 games. They have had 6 more penalties than the opposition in 3 games, including last Saturday. They really don't need help from Chiefs favored refs for this to happen.

These things you've suggested are reasonable without a Swiftie conspiracy. You would not be crazy to put $$$ down for the Chiefs to cover or the Texans to go on a penalty-fest. Still, there's a reason they play the game.

Our guys (offense or defense) need to get the ball in the end zone often. They also need to prevent KC players (offense or defense) from getting the ball into the end zone. If they do both a lot, & they can, it won't matter how bad/uneven the officiating is. It will make it more difficult, but it can be done.

Will Anderson needs a coming out party including a hat trick.

I think (to me at least) a Texans win against KC would be damned near a Super Bowl and if that's as far as they make it this year then that would be fine with me. Better than fine even. The teams remaining I think all look like bad matchups to the Texans team I saw all year long but the 800 lb. gorilla in the room is Baltimore. I think of them as the "No way in hell do the Texans beat them this year, particularly not in the playoffs" team waiting out there to end our year. KC is the one team maybe a second shot at might provide an interesting outcome. If we face Buffalo again I'm pretty sure they beat us. If we face Baltimore they are going to crush us. KC should by all rights win this one but it feels like there's a chance here.

This is the mentality right now we need to try to keep. Gotta exorcise the Arrowhead demon first. Maybe one day we can be like the KC fans who have turned their divisional round thread on Chiefs Planet into a conversation about potential AFCCG match ups. The Texans don't even exist to them.

I can have any mentality I please ;) "I" am not playing anybody. I'm a spectator and it only took me 20+ years to get that through my head. An hour after the game ends I'm doing something else no matter what the outcome.

But I sure hope the team takes your advice!

I know everyone thinks we are going to lose, but I think that's why it sets up for a trap game. #1 seed at home, they haven't played in awhile, and they are probably more worried about Buffalo/Baltimore, people still not really giving this team a chance...... Like I said last game, I love the underdog role! The Texans have a real good chance in this one, they are going in hot, and if KC comes out flat after the layoff, plus if this defense can pressure Mahommes... anything is possible. LFG!

There are few things (sports-wise) I want more than to live to see the Texans win the Super Bowl. In order for that to happen, they have to win in the dreaded divisional round. Although I would pick them to lose this game if you asked me, I do think they will be competitive and have a punchers chance of winning it. I think the Texans will hang around and ultimately lose. Chiefs look very beatable and like another poster said they just find ways to win these games. You could say similar things about this Texans squad (when they win) so I will be pulling for them to pull this off. Would love to return to the scene of the crime and beat KC at home. Would do a lot to wash away the stink that BOB left in the ole' 0-24 game.

Every Texan should be locked in a room with a banner that says "avenge this" and have them watch the "playoff game" we blew against KC.

All they have to do is what they did this last week and play just a tad cleaner.

Remember the last time we played the Chiefs? Got out to a 21-0 lead. Looked like everything was going our way. Then the bottom fell out.

Saturday was almost the opposite. Didn't look good for most of the 1st half, then Cj clicked & the Texans rolled to the W.

I'm just going to ask you, one time. Please keep your heads come Saturday. Don't get too high if we start good. Don't get all negative if we start poorly. Trust DeMeco to handle whatever happens. Believe it's going to happen.

& I'm guilty too. If I start throwing down Rick Flair gifs before halfway through the 3rd Qtr... pull me aside. Tell me to put the whiskey down for a second & enjoy the ride.

This will show that 5 years is an eternity in the NFL, but a blink of the eye to an NFL fan. There are 5 players from that 2019 Chiefs squad still with the team. Only 4 Texans remain from the 2019 season. In an oddity, 3 of the 2019 Texans now play for the 2024 Chiefs.

The redemption story for this game to the majority of the Texans is to get revenge for the week 16 loss at Arrowhead. That's the ghost story for this team. Their motto is probably "Let's win this for Tank!"

I know (probably) none of them played here when Hopkins was here but I think it would be really amazing and strange if for the first part of his career "The Houston Texans" stood in the way of Hopkins getting a ring and then at the end of his career "The Houston Texans" stopped his best shot (to date) to ever get a ring.

@Lucky mentioned the penalty situation a few post up. I get it, the Texans have had issues with them. And I’m sure other teams have been penalized during the game more than the Texans.

But….concerning the Swifties penalties, it almost always feels like they get bailed out with an accurately timed one. Texans, not so much.

I posted awhile back that Mahomes has the most INTs thrown the past year and a half or so that DID NOT count because of a penalty on the D. And yes, I understand all the variables there, just sayin……

Also @Lucky mentioned the close games. Last year and a half the Texans have been in 17 games decided by 5 points (I think, maybe 7) or less and are 11-6 in those games. That’s not bad.

I think the good guys play a good game and keep it close. We have to run the ball like the 4th quarter against the chargers, keep Mahomes on the pine freezing his arse off! And if it’s close at the end, let’s make that stat 12-6!

I’m just really worried about those “timely” flags for the Swifties….. it happened in the regular season game….it more than likely will happen Saturday

Peeked into the Texans-Chiefs thread on chiefsplanet.com. They're debating whether the Bills or the Ravens are a better opponent to come to Arrowhead for AFCCG. Hope their team has the same attitude.
Are we any different? I'm still lurking on powderblue.com & they remind me if us after a loss. Going into the game everything was roses. After the loss Harbaugh needs to blow it up & start all over, including QB.

Now the Texans can use Stephen A's segment today on First Take for billboard material and tackling fuel. He said our team has ZERO % chance of winning.

Love how these talking heads like to act superior, and have topical takes that reveal they haven't really researched the team. Another Bye week in the 3:30 PM Saturday time slot. Let's own it! I love it!

Let's go! :texflag:
