Welcome to Houston Cam Robinson

Ok NOW we're cooking with butane!

This must be why they restructured Howard today. At Tackle, still draft a mid- to lower-round tackle for some insurance and a guy who might develop into something more.

At Guard, draft a guy in the top 3 rounds who can push hard for the RG spot as a rookie, and we're starting to cook. A first rounder is not too high, there but there are some good candidates in the 2nd and 3rd as well.

Chef Nick hopped back in the kitchen!

He has to be a better LT than Howard though, right?
I was joking based on some of the responses by posters on TT.

Solid move, low risk, makes the line better as a whole. Also, creates multiple different lineups at OL AND doesn't tip our hand in the draft. We won't have a replay of the 2019 draft where everyone knew who we were taking and teams traded up in front of us. Finally, it allows us to trade up/back to get a WR, without worrying about having to play a less than average player on the OL (see Britt, Khalil...I'm barfing).

NC makes a nice move. Buys us some more time, and with the extra draft picks next year, can plug holes next year if these acquisitions don't work out, or gives the team time to develop the players we draft this year on the OL.

In total, Robinson allowed seven sacks, committed 13 penalties and allowed 52 pressures across 999 regular-season snaps with the Jaguars and Vikings. He finished the 2024 season as Pro Football Focus' 53rd-rated tackle among 81 qualifiers.

I thought he was better then this? He was drafted 34 overall and has a good reputation. Is it the knee issues maybe? I didn't know he had knee issues. Also not thrilled about the 13 penalties. That's better than Tunsil, but not by a lot and Tunsil sets an extremely low bar.

Nick gave him a pretty penny if he's simply the swing tackle, but maybe they wanted good insurance instead of a rookie. I dunno - it's sort of weird. Spend the jack on a swing tackle, but don't spend the jack on a guard?

What about Robinson foot and knees?

Let's move our future posts on this guy to one thread so we can keep up with the conversation.
Is he the starting left tackle? His injuries really concern me and that is a lot of money to be a swing tackle. Does Howard go back to left guard? After restructuring he is no longer a trade or cut candidate. going to affect our draft going forward?

Cam is a year younger than Tunsil. He has only played 2 full seasons 2020 and 2024..Due to injuries and PEDs.

I can see them doing this to give extra time for the new rookie LT they're drafting in round 1. I can't see them doing this thinking he's gonna be a solution at LT. At most it's an expensive one year insurance policy.

I'm still chalking all this up to Tricky Nick knowing what he's doing, even if I don't understand it. One thing's for sure, we got a new oline and new oline coaches this year, something better change for the better or all this is gonna blow up and Casino will be left holding the bag.

Man, I remember seeing someone around here suggest this move and thought it was a genius idea: link (Oh what's that, it was me!!! :winky: )

I'm %100 percent behind this deal. To get a one-year LT with starting-potential at $12M is as good as it's going to get. In the best of worlds someone will beat him out in camp, but having someone who's shown they can at least perform adequately at that position is all I needed.

I also have to give Caserio some credit for having the cajones to wait until Robinson's price went down.

14.5m is a lot for depth, isn’t it?
He's starting and the drafted LT of the future will probably be playing LG to begin with. What I wonder is if they will draft a guy with the skillset of Tate Ratlege. Or a more mobile guy like Zabel to play OG.

I like this signing. Adds quality competition across the OL and does not force the Texans to reach for a lesser prospect because they see them as a LT. Best OL available is still top of my board on draft day, but if that’s an interior OL like Donovan Jackson that’s who i’m taking.

I just wonder where they will have Tytus compete. Is he competing with Fisher or Robinson? I’d rather not have Tytus at guard now that Tomlinson and Ingram are here along with a possible rookie.

Let Fisher, Robinson and Tytus duke it out for the tackle spots. Loser is the swing.

Robinson may be half the price of Tunsil, but I don’t believe he’s half the player. League average starting LT. Good value for the contract.

What about Robinson foot and knees?
I'm not Dr. Jean, so you would have to ask him and based on his responses in this thread, I would imagine his foot and knees are "sub-optimal."

I think this is just the cost of doing business the way the Texans wanted to do things. You want Tunsil off the team? Well, there isn't another Tunsil out there. I'd much rather there be a competition between the 3 Ts they do have than just giving the T positions to Fisher and Howard. They want 3 players that can play serviceable OT and hope that 2 of them are good enough to give CJ some time to throw and not get de-cleated several times a game. I don't see Robinson as anything more than a one-year insurance policy if the rookies we draft aren't ready, or Howard and Fisher can't beat him out (which is really going to suck) or there are injuries during the year.

IMO Texans just trying to put together a line with options until they can bring in some draft picks to be ready. They don't want to show their hand in the draft because that's how good organizations exploit your team or make overpay by moving up to make sure your guy is there. I would think we would see either a trade up or trade back for #25. Again, I'm not in the building so this is pure speculation, which I'm an expert.

Nick hopped? Does he have knee injuries also?

I remain concerned about a LT that has had multiple knee surgeries...............ruptured ACL, ruptured MCL, medial meniscus excisions and removal of loose articular fragments.

One thing to remember is that he was traded to the Vikings midseason due to an injury on their OL. So he has to have some leeway in terms of going into an unfamiliar system.

He's here to make sure the offense (and CJ) can at least function, while the team drafts/teaches a new long-term option.

He was never top notch
He wasn’t half bad. I think it’s a solid bandaid signing. Let’s hope it somewhat sticks long enough for our new LT to take over. It’s only one year. He’s gonna wanna ball out for a contract too… and eyes will be on him as a member of the Houston Texans. We’re going places.

If there are, is there any guarantee the Texans would be able to draft them? Better to live in the now.
Right, get the best player they can now & not someone they hope can be good “one day.”

They said inside out. Becton, Zeitler, Jenkins and Scherif aren't on this roster

Other than the $14M deal. I figured we’d sign someone like him after the draft but not for Starter money.

I’m not criticizing Nick, this is no different than trading a 6th or 7th round pick for a guy about to get cut.

Just not what I would have done.

Exactly, and I would still draft Banks and put him at LG. Then put Howard at RG.

I'm not a huge fan of what they've done at OL so far, but these are the guys they wanted. We've got "bodies" already so I would have preferred they spent a little more on players who've recently had more success than the guys we picked up. I'm not going to say this line is definitely going to be bad next year...I have hope...

But if they aren't much better than last year I'm definitely not going to be surprised.
