Oregon vs. Ohio State -- 2015 College Football Playoff Championship Game

Playoffs

Hall of Fame

Traditional broadcast

The traditional game broadcast — with two announcers, sideline reporters and a traditional camera angle — will be on ESPN. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN's typical primetime duo, will be in the booth, with Heather Cox and Tom Rinaldi on the sidelines. However, there are many more options for viewers.

Other viewing options

  • Film Room debuted last year with coaches providing X's and O's analysis, and it's back this year with a different set of analysts. Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, former Michigan State defensive coordinator and new Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi and new Nebraska coach Mike Riley will be in Bristol to break down the game from multiple camera angles to explain the X's and O's behind the what you'd typically see on television. That broadcast will be on ESPN2.
  • ESPN has brought together a group of analysts from a number of different sports to create a show called ESPN Voices, which will be broadcast on ESPNU. The panel will consist of Jay Bilas, Aaron Boone, Julie Foudy, Barry Melrose, Mark Schlereth and Michael Wilbon.
  • In a broadcast similar to Film Room, ESPN will bring former football personnel and current analysts together to discuss the game for its Off the Ball show on ESPNEWS. Bob Wischusen will host the discussion with Kevin Carter, Matt Millen, Jason Sehorn, Matt Stinchcomb and Amani Toomer.
  • The network will broadcast the Sounds of the Game on ESPN Classic, with 100 microphones providing natural sound over the telecast, including the pregame and halftime shows of both schools' bands.
  • ESPN Radio's broadcast of the game will feature Mike Tirico, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe, Joe Schad and rules expert Bill Lemonnier.
  • You can also listen to Home Team Radio to get both the Ohio State and Oregon home radio calls on ESPN3, played over the televised footage of the game.
  • Command Center will be available on ESPN Goal Line, and it will provide commercial-free coverage of the game, with instant replays, split screen action and isolated views of both coaches.
  • You can get the Spanish Language Call on ESPN Deportes with Eduardo Varela and Pablo Viruega.
  • SpiderCam on ESPN3 will give fans an above-the-field view of the game.
  • The Taco Bell Student Section will prominently feature the biggest and craziest fans of each team.
  • The commercial-free Data Center on ESPN3 will give fans lots of analytics and social media content.
  • Around the World: ESPN’s game coverage will be available to the men and women serving in the United States military branches in 175 countries through the American Forces Network. Fans in 146 countries around the world will be able to view the game on ESPN International and ESPN Deportes platforms.
  • Social Media: ESPN will also use its various social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter within the coverage. Potential content includes behind-the-scenes insights, statistics and information, interaction with fans, and more.
Every CFP Megacast option on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPN Deportes and ESPNEWS will also be available through WatchESPN, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360, and Xbox One to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.

ESPN Radio’s broadcast will also be available via the ESPN Radio app, the SportsCenter App, ESPNRadio.com, SiriusXM, Apple iTunes Radio, Slacker Radio and TuneIn.

Game starting soon.

How about some of our draft guys posting which draft eligible players we need to be watching tonight? (I'd copy/paste but it might be out of date)

So who should we keep an eye on...?

Why does that commentator keep saying Cardale threw that ball away from the defender when he clearly did not?

Just turned game on beginning of third, Oregon just took ball away from a receiver. What I have I missed? Score not what I thought.
edit ok Mariota throws TD and announcer had just said two first half TO by Oregon were stopped by Ohio St. Oh crap, WR turns loose ball?

Ohio State would be over the hills and far away but for four turn-overs. That's the first one on Jones who had been very good up until then.

Ezekiel Elliot is the reason Ohio State is playing for the National Championship. Three straight games with 200+ rushing yards.

Mariota didn't make the big throw when he had too...

Coming off the field after that he looked just like M Sanchez :kitten:

Congrats to Urban Meyer and Ohio State

Very fitting that they are the first winners of the playoffs

Worked night shift. Got home and stupid DVR only recorded fist quarter for some reason. How did #9 smith ohio st play? He's the only one I was really interested in.

If you have ESPN-U they're replaying the game now (it's 5:15a) and will repeat it again starting at 6:30am CST

Ohio St was so far and away the better team that it was sad to watch. 3 of the 4 turnovers were unforced and Oregon did absolutely nothing with those gifts. I definitely think TCU would have given Ohio St a better game.

Oregon's DL played pretty well. They were actually attacking and mostly winning the battle at the line of scrimmage, but the LBs and DBs behind them were atrociously bad. I stopped counting missed tackles in the second quarter. DEs Armstead and Buckner were very impressive, OLB Washington and SS Dargan were average, everyone else was garbage.

OSU OL Decker was impressive. None of the WRs jumped out at me, but they weren't asked to do a lot. Jones had a very good game. He's a better runner than passer right now but you can just see the arm talent jump out at you every time he throws the ball. RB Elliott was obviously the star of the show. He was unreal.

Mariota was efficient but just like last week his accuracy was spotty. He plays very intelligent, safe football but I'm starting to think he is more Alex Smith than Russell Wilson. LT Fisher disappointed me. His strength is pass pro and he was beaten too many times. Nobody else on the offense played well except for RB/WR Marshall. They did a good job of getting him the ball in the open field, and he showed some explosive ability.

OSU's entire DL dominated the Oregon OL, but Bosa stood out again. He is insanely talented for a true sophomore. Looks like a pretty sure bet to be a first round pick next year. S Bell is a real player. Looks like a future stud. I couldn't really find a weak link on their defense. LB Lee got lost quite a bit but he's a freshman and he made up for his mistakes with athleticism.

Kudos to Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

They simply looked like the better coached and better game-planned team on the field by a wide margin the last two games.

I'm no NFL scout however he didn't look like a #1 overall pick worthy QB prospect to me. He tends to overthrow guys an awful lot amongst other things.

lol, I was out watching the game so I didn't see your post until right now, but I thought the same thing. It was a bad throw and should have been picked if that was an NFL DB. Not saying Daniels is finished and has no chance of going pro as he is still young, but he's still got a long way to go to become a day 2 prospect. He will be lucky if he is drafted as it stands today.

Subject change... why haven't we brought up Oregon going for it on the 4th down at like the 5 or whatever in the first quarter/Beginning of 2nd? WTH was that? I get confidence, but C'MON MAN! Take the points! It's the first half and early in the game! I think it's little things like that, that can really change the outcome of the game. I'm not complaining too much, I bet the Buckeyes spread and made some coin, but we get 1 national championship game a year, and I wanted a good game AND to win my bet. I was playing darts with about 4 minutes left in this wack game.

Is he a third-year sophmore ? If so he's then eligible for the NFL Draft, right ?

He is draft eligible and IMO should declare. Strike while he's hot. If he returns at best he has to beat two guys that are Heisman candidates and risk injury. His stock is not going to get any higher than it is now. If he's ready to be an NFL QB, that's another story.

I had I like mariota, but he's going to have to adjust to the pro game. He has good physical tools and seems to have a good mental make up (though I'd like to see more desire)....but unless he goes to a team where they use a similar style of offense or are willing to go there (which is not many) , then he's going to have a steep learning curve.

It's a whole different beast to have to read the entirety of the defense and to constantly be making adjustments before and even during a play.

College Football Playoff National Championship: ESPN’s Highest Overnight Rating Ever
Monday night’s inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T (8:30 p.m. – midnight ET) — Ohio State’s 42-20 victory over Oregon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – generated a 18.5 overnight rating, the highest metered market ever for ESPN according to Nielsen. Last night’s National Championship game was a 21% increase over the 2014 BCS National Championship on ESPN (Florida State vs. Auburn, 15.3). Also, the final game of the new College Football Playoff format surpassed the 16.1 overnight rating for the 2011 BCS National Championship (Auburn vs. Oregon) which held the previous best in cable history.

The Oregon-Ohio State game rating peaked from 9:30 p.m-9:45 p.m. with a 20.5 metered market rating.

In the primary home markets of the two schools, the telecast delivered a 51.2 in Columbus, the No. 1 overall market, and a 37.6 in Portland, Ore., good for fourth overall. The top 10 metered markets (in addition to those of the competing teams) are the following: Columbus, Dayton (43.8), Cleveland (41.3), Portland, Birmingham (36.1), Cincinnati (26.5), Jacksonville (25.7), Knoxville (25.5), Greenville (24.1) and Atlanta (23.0).

Additionally, the National Championship set overnight post season college football records, for a game on ESPN, in 22 different markets in the following cities: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Dayton, Denver, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

In addition to the traditional telecast, ESPN offered more than 12 ways to watch last night’s championship game through the “CFP Megacast.” ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS combined to average 18.9 metered market average, up 20% (15.7) from the 2014 BCS Megascast.

Final ratings and additional details on the “CFP MegaCast” will be made available this afternoon.

Oregon home market seems low....?

I'm sure Jones would get drafted and get a Tom Savage redhirt year. Whom would you rather have as a project QB, Savage or Jones?

Every college QB this side of Andrew Luck has a steep learning curve. Mariota isn't special in that regard.

Maybe there was a new episode of Portlandia?

I watched the megacast with the college coaches talking and diagramming. "Here come the counter, here comes the counter!" Kinda takes the suspense out.

That's funny because all my SEC buddies were saying that this would be the lowest rated game in years due to no SEC team playing.

More steep than some.

I don't think bridge water's learning curve is as big as manziels. Russell Wilson adjusted faster than keepernick. Luck over rg3.

There's a lot of these guys that come out of these gimicky type offenses with a lot of short throws and screens and option type plays....using their legs a bunch....

And that's fine. But the risk there is that the climb uphill may be too far. Even if they make progress they still may leave something to be desired.

Two similar talents without considering anything else I'll take the pro style guy. But I like mariota because he's shown some things like scrambling to pass. Good accuracy most of the time...

But because of that offense he's going to have a bigger hill to climb as far as nfl reads go than some other rookies that have been playing in pro style offenses. Doesn't mean he won't be successful.

I liked what I saw in Jones better. Dude throws with ease. He's huge, like Big Ben with better wheels. Looks unflappable.

If Jones came out to cash in on the spotlight, I wouldn't blame him. However, I doubt he would get picked higher than in the 3rd because of the lack of starts. Let me put it this way, I'd swap him for Savage in a NY minute.

After a 10 hour staff meeting yesterday Ohio State HC Urban Meyer is on a cellphone talking to SVP & Rusillo (ESPN Radio) sitting in his car in the parking lot of a high school...

Recruiting, sheesh. :jogger:
