Why do you think they do that? Does Bobby Slowick not understand the numbers game?

Not sure there...if that is a constant problem then that is an offensive conception and design problem along with guys who can't just line up to beat the guy in front of him.At 3:31 he says the Texans are often running into the teeth of the defense, there are too many bodies.

Sometimes it is the way it's designed. Kubiak did it often because the way the line blocked that extra guy we're counting is not a factor. So our problem may very well be an execution problem. Not sure there...if that is a constant problem then that is an offensive conception and design problem along with guys who can't just line up to beat the guy in front of him.
Whenever we get to this point. I feel like a chicken or egg argument is imminent. If the QB in the Shanny/Kubiak system does not need to audible because there are answers in each play, when the QB sees this, what is the answer?Sometimes it is the way it's designed. Traditionally though, it's the QB that sees what is called & changes it at the LOS.
Either way, the OC cannot predict how the defense will line up, if there's going to be an adjustment to the play called it's got to be at the player level.
By change it I don't mean audible, just run it to the other side.Whenever we get to this point. I feel like a chicken or egg argument is imminent. If the QB in the Shanny/Kubiak system does not need to audible because there are answers in each play, when the QB sees this, what is the answer?
I'm sure there are built in adjustments like discussed on here ad nauseam over the years. As a QB in only his 2nd year, there are still new/different things from defenses to experience. I'm not speaking solely about CJ, because IMO most QBs aren't mastering an offense until year 3 or later to completely understand how to attack pre-snap or post-snap defensive looks.Whenever we get to this point. But if the play is designed to run to the overloaded side, no biggie. The answer is already built in... like a cutback. It may be a designed cutback & overloading a side works in the offense favor.
The thing I questioned about the video was that he said "too many times." Of course that's his opinion, but it's an educated opinion.
Same things were said about Kubiak's offense/Schaub being able to audible. When defenses are comfortable enough to overload (the teeth) the run side then cutting back in the mouth from left to right leaves Mixon still in the mouth….thus the teeth of the defense. By calling an audible to change the entire direction of the run play, means that here should be enough blockers to handle the right side run which gives the running play a higher chance for success. The problem, Slowick doesn’t permit audibles and plays are executed as called. I’m almost feel like Slowick is slow calling the plays to prevent an offensive mutiny by CJ calling audibles on his own.
Another BS fine, that was a legal hard hit. God'ells fining players for hard hits. SMHFine on Bullock

1st it's not an audible to flip a play. 2nd it's speculation that Slowick doesn’t allow audibles. 3rd we've got to get past thinking S2roud has no control from the LOS. He's got more control of a play at that moment than anyone else, including Slowick. The problem, Slowick doesn’t permit audibles and plays are executed as called.
Sometimes, it feels like it would be easier finding Bigfoot or the Chupacabra than finding out how much the QB controls the LOS in this offense.1st it's not an audible to flip a play. 2nd it's speculation that Slowick doesn’t allow audibles. 3rd we've got to get past thinking S2roud has no control from the LOS. In every offense from this tree the coach says it is the QB's job to get them into the right play. That doesn't mean audible, it means reading the defense & making adjustments at the line. We saw Matt Schaub do it at a high level here for a long time.
Depending on who the quarterback is, that would be one of the most stupid decisions I have ever heard of. A quarterback should be able to see if the play has minimal chance of success and then audible out.Sometimes, it feels like it would be easier finding the Bigfoot or the Chupacabra than finding out how much the QB controls the LOS in this offense.
"On Monday, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said that changing the play wasn’t an option. “No, once we called it, started the motion, it was game on,” Kubiak said when he was asked about changing the play. “So we just had a very, very poor play like I told you.”
Matt Schaub couldn’t audible out of pick six
Don't shoot the messenger. Here is another example. It's a feature of the system.Depending on who the quarterback is, that would be one of the most stupid decisions I have ever heard of. A quarterback should be able to see if the play has minimal chance of success and then audible out.
To clarify nothing in my post was directed at you. The coach making that decision was whom I was referring to.Don't shoot the messenger. Here is another example. It's a feature of the system.
"TRANSLATION: No, Purdy is not allowed to "randomly make up an audible" at the line of scrimmage. Shanahan's incredible plays are supposed to have answers for everything the defense can throw at the 49ers. Usually. Except for when Shanahan doesn't have the answers, and all Purdy can do is think, "Oh shoot, they got us," and run a play that's doomed from the start. Like the one on 3rd and 1."
