Too bad the old dog track in Texas City is being converted to a music venue that is supposed to rival the music venue in sugar land. That could’ve been a good spot for it!How about moving it closer to Galveston? There’s plenty of spots in between Houston and Galveston off 45.
Deduct what? That’s only 4,700 seat parts to fix the ones currently falling apart.im sure they’re not going to want those seats be installed in the new stadium, should they be granted one.All right! We taxpayers just saved a whole bunch of money! We get to deduct this cost from a new stadium whenever it is built.

Park and ride option would be limited. If you are changing locations, move to EADO. Plans already include to build like a river walk sort of attraction. Why isn't it a great idea.
I'm not for putting it in the Woodlands or against it.
Another place with land that's growing quickly is on 99 between Woodlands and New Caney.

23 years old without a major renovation puts NRG in the older third of the NFL (and last in the AFC South), it doesn't sound right but it is the reality of the NFL. Let's not forget Lovie Smith's presser with the fire alarm going off. This stadium is what, 23 years old?
Why fear this,23 years old without a major renovation puts NRG in the older third of the NFL (and last in the AFC South), it doesn't sound right but it is the reality of the NFL. Let's not forget Lovie Smith's presser with the fire alarm going off.
With the NFL allowing the teams to sell up to 10% stakes to equity firms, I'd prefer Cal use this option to generate the finances to build a new stadium. Kronke was able to build 6 billion SoFi without public money (up front at least, they are seeking massive tax breaks), not that the potential new stadium needs to cost anything near that much.
Fear is that if the Houston metro area losses a second NFL team, it will never get a third.
Absolutely!!!Do we really need our toys that bad?
Because I really enjoy having an NFL team in my hometown? Why fear this,
Does Houston have to have an NFL team. Do we really need our toys that bad? I used to go to NRG every Sunday for 20 yrs and missed 5 games in that time. I finally came to the realization that I was being played for a sucker. Now the McNair's are trying to play the taxpayers as suckers.
At some point the investment isn't worth the return.
Good for you they should double everybody who votes for this taxes. If you want to subsidize billionaires playpens then go right aheadBecause I really enjoy having an NFL team in my hometown?
Also if the McNair's playing the fanbase for "suckers" is a problem for you, I'm going to assume you don't like any professional sports in America? Because the McNair's aren't acting any different than any other ownership group.
This problem was coming the second Harris Co insisted on owning NRG. Who would have thought the county would fail to meet their obligation to maintain and improve NRG? I mean Harris Co has such a great track record...right?
Good for you they should double everybody who votes for this taxes. If you want to subsidize billionaires playpens then go right ahead
I would rather watch football on TV, war and drink my own stuff. They've made almost 6 Billion dollars on a 700 million dollar investment and generally put a crap product on the field for most of 20 years. Sucker, I know how it feels because I was a sucker for most of this franchises existence. If you don't like the cost of going to a game now wait until a new stadium is built. SMH.
It's the fact that the McNair's bent the county over in the deal because of fans that wanted a NFL football team at all costs. Well, we've got the same middling crap that we had when the Oilers were down on Kirby.I keep seeing everyone complaining about their "increased" taxes going to the stadium, either upkeep or a new one; and yet I am like 99% sure the only taxes that changed to finance the stadium were the rates to hotel rooms and rental cars.
Also how is Harris Co's utter and total mismanagement of this escaping any critiques?
No one is letting Harris Co off the hook. They blew it. Couldn't even keep up maintenance on the stadium.I keep seeing everyone complaining about their "increased" taxes going to the stadium, either upkeep or a new one; and yet I am like 99% sure the only taxes that changed to finance the stadium were the rates to hotel rooms and rental cars.

And yet the overwhelming majority of those going to the stadium have not paid anything for it.It's the fact that the McNair's bent the county over in the deal because of fans that wanted a NFL football team at all costs. Well, we've got the same middling crap that we had when the Oilers were down on Kirby.
Do taxes from tourism have a limit? Apparently not as it continuously increases. Of course, covid took a whack at it as it did almost everything else. But we still seem to be doing pretty well.No one is letting Harris Co off the hook. They blew it. Couldn't even keep up maintenance on the stadium.
Regarding taxes, yes it's tourist taxes, but even those have a limit. When I had to rent a car locally I couldn't believe how much the stadium fees added to the final bill. So, for a new stadium, do we just keep piling on hotel and car rental taxes? How far do we go with that? Double? Triple?
I’ll tell exactly how that happened. Politics. Harris county demanded ownership of the home team’s stadium, then proceeded to neglect the stadium for 23 years, deeming it middle of the pack to bottom of the barrel. Kinda like the way the city Houston stacks up to other cities, IN TEXAS! We have fallen way behind and now that Harris County has gone public saying they’re on the brink of bankruptcy, don’t be surprised if Houston ends up looking like these border cities in Texas.I don't care if they leave. I really don't. In the 90's when the Oiler's took off I wasn't ready to just keep watching the team play football in some other city. It didn't matter that I rarely went to games and always watched it on TV (when it was on). I thought "If they move to Nashville they won't be my team anymore". I didn't understand that they were never my team or even Houston's team. They were Bud's team. Now they are Cal's team. If I want to watch CJ Stroud and Nico I can watch them on TV no matter where they play. I just don't care to see the county and city tied up to this mess anymore. How does a stadium get $1.4 billion dollars in need of repair and updating in 23 years? What a bunch of bullshit.
No doubt they would replaced relatively quickly... but how long until that new team would be in the position to win like the Texans?I think Houston is a good market for NFL. I think if Texans went to another state it might not be too long before the NFL placed another franchise in Houston.
I wish Harris County had a great negotiator but I think he is tied up right nowNo doubt they would replaced relatively quickly... but how long until that new team would be in the position to win like the Texans?
I mean, historically probably wouldn't take them long to get to the playoffs win the wildcard and get eliminated the next game but... IF you want a team that badly just keep the one you have.
We either need to take care of the teams we have or get used to being Los Angeles on the gulf... plenty of demographic but cant keep one.
I read that earlier. Notice that he said "Greater Houston." They could ask for a new stadium and still move out to the burbs, which would suck, in my opinion.Texans new president says no relocation.
I don't see that indicated.I read that earlier. Notice that he said "Greater Houston." They could ask for a new stadium and still move out to the burbs, which would suck, in my opinion.
"While we are open to all options, one of them emphatically is not leaving Greater Houston."I don't see that indicated.
The County definitely dropped the ball. They just let the stadium fall into disrepair without giving a ****. For a stadium that isn't even paid for! Unbelievable.I’ll tell exactly how that happened. Politics. Harris county demanded ownership of the home team’s stadium, then proceeded to neglect the stadium for 23 years, deeming it middle of the pack to bottom of the barrel. I work for Harris county and can’t really even wander into this conversation without slipping into political talk so I’m just going to say it is entirely unsurprising to me.
So trueGovernment bureaucracy of any type is inherently inefficient, and Houston and Harris Country excel at it.![]()
Yep, mismanagement capped off with corruption over the yrs.I’ll tell exactly how that happened. Politics. Agreed, but what over the past 23 yrs makes you think the McNair's have a burning desire to bring a championship to this city? They're being run a lot like the Oilers were run. Give hope and make a few billion dollars, then rebuild, rinse, wash, repeat. No doubt they would replaced relatively quickly... but how long until that new team would be in the position to win like the Texans?

Negotiations are easy.
Win the SB city pays.
Don't you cover it.
See to it that Houston gets one in our life time.
Rigged or not, nothing gets things done like a billionaires bottom line being affected.
I read that earlier. Notice that he said "Greater Houston." They could ask for a new stadium and still move out to the burbs, which would suck, in my opinion.
It would suck because it's currently located in the core of the city. There is light rail access that a lot of people use to get to the games. Yes they should build up more things in that area, but that's a lot simpler than moving it all the way out to the Woodlands.Exactly and if the NFL knows this they probably will start rigging games like when the Rams moved to LA. See: Rams vs Saints NFCCG, it's good for NFL business.
Why would it suck? It's sucks that NRG sits in a rundown part of town, where there's nowhere to go before/after games. The only gameday experience thing that's good is the tailgaiting experience.
That part of town is in the slums they built NRG and didn't build anything around it. If they build a new stadium on that sight they aren't going to build up that area and it will be more of the same old same old. Having rail isn't a good enough reason to build (again) in failed area of town.It would suck because it's currently located in the core of the city. There is light rail access that a lot of people use to get to the games. Yes they should build up more things in that area, but that's a lot simpler than moving it all the way out to the Woodlands.
There is no chance Houston would get a third NFL franchise if the Texans left, Houston is not the LA market in the eyes of the NFL.I think Houston is a good market for NFL. I think if Texans went to another state it might not be too long before the NFL placed another franchise in Houston.
I’m not so sure about that. The franchise being one of the most valuable at $6.1 billion kinda says otherwise. Not to mention Houston being THE biggest city in Texas, and Texas being the 2nd biggest state (by population) in the U.S.There is no chance Houston would get a third NFL franchise if the Texans left, Houston is not the LA market in the eyes of the NFL.
Media market size means more than population size, and the DFW media market is larger than Houston. Also the NFL would need to add a second team if Houston got an expansion team (the hypothetical 3rd franchise) to balance the conferences. The cost of entry has gone up significantly, so you need to find a new owner (and possibly one who can finance a stadium).I’m not so sure about that. I get it what you’re saying. Relocation probably only means relocating to a new site in this case. I don’t know that for a fact, but the way they went about connecting with the fanbase, new uniforms, and incorporating Houston area rappers and celebrities makes me believe they ain’t trying to leave the city at all. We’ll see though.Media market size means more than population size, and the DFW media market is larger than Houston. No chance might have been a bit much, but the deck would certainly be stacked against Houston in securing a 3rd NFL franchise. Like I said, LA is the only market to pull it off and Houston is not LA in the mind of the NFL, and if Houston lost 2 franchises, I doubt the NFL would look favorable on the location/local government
I agree, I think reloaction to the Texans means out of Harris County not to a new market.I get it what you’re saying. Relocation probably only means relocating to a new site in this case. I'm trying to mentally picture stadium traffic mixing in with Galveston beach traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Yikes. How about moving it closer to Galveston? There’s plenty of spots in between Houston and Galveston off 45.
In a sprawling city such as Houston, there is no “good” location except where it’s at which is centrally located.I would be happy too as long as the McNair's pay for it.
You're right though NRG sits in a terrible location.
