Week 10: Texans vs Bengals. Can we pull off the Upset?

He's a good wr, but not of AJ Brown/Tyreek Hill caliber. Seeing what they have right now, I'd prefer to go into the draft and get a wr. I'm saying that and I like Tee Higgins.

As a Bengals fan I can absolutely endorse this statement. Tee has made some good plays and he has performed well in games without Chase. But he is not speedy or twitchy. He is the perfect #2; big, long, can jump - 50-50 balls are usually more 80-20. I doubt we pay him WR1 money but someone will, I could see the Bengals tag him next year.

Higgins is a great WR2, a great compliment to Chase. Someone (maybe the Cowboys) will overpay him. I think the Bengals will tag Reader long before they do Higgins

Nope, the front office loves WRs here more than every other position except QB. Im the biggest DJ Reader fan, my son and DJ have been friends since college and they live almost next to each other in Cincy now. DJ is the strongest part of our defense but we almost never extend guys into their 30's. We did extend Geno Atkins at 30 and he was injured immediately afterwards and never recovered. I truly hope we can keep DJ, but it wont be a franchise tag. Tee is by far the #1 option for a tag or the RT WIlliams is a long shot.

He's probably top 5-8 in the league and just about to hit his prime. I'm paying him, drafting Sweat and following the 49ers model.
I can't really complain about the strategy - It's a good one. Maybe not what I'd do, but if that's how it went down I'd still be happy.

That said ideally the contract is at max 4 years and hopefully more in the 25 mil a year range rather than 30+ mil range.

SteelB: I want the truth. Did you tell Caserio to draft Stroud?

Hannah: You can't handle the truth. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who have spent years entertaining himself by bashing the Texans draft picks and then the one time we get it right, you question the manner in how we picked Stroud. You want me in the draft room, you need me in the draft room. I would rather you just say "thank you" and go on your way.

Hannah: You damn right I did!
Like I said sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Hold up. Wait a minute. Are you thanking......Hannah? :kitten:

lmao :spit:

Narratives are a funny things, especially when there is zero proof to substantiate any of it.

For all we know CJ was always Caserio's pick and it was Nick that floated the S2 bullshit to get the Bears and Panthers away from considering him.

I'm sure the draft story around CJ will be like JJ with everyone claiming credit. :heh:

I think it is a winnable game. But, the Bengals do have Burrow and some other players that are not slouches.

Found about all that is around about our replacement kicker. See link. Not amazing but hopefully he can do what he is needed to do for 3 or 4 games.

Ahhh, sitting their starters so when we humiliate them they have an excuse.

We should announce we are starting their Kryptonite..... TJ Yates. :kitten:
Yes they’ll used that excuse but hopefully someone would say, the Texans had 25 players injured and a bunch of their key players are out too.

The secondary is banged up. We can only hope the Bengals WRs are equally banged up.

Difference is, the Bengals have Burrow to elevate the players he has available.

For the Texans, the QB effect is why i’m not as concerned that Nico is out this week. Stroud will elevate the play of the WRs available to him.

I just saw that Stingleys been activated. How much burn does he get I wonder?

Stingley's got talent, I wouldn't doubt that. Whether or not he can show it for more than four or five games a year is the question.

It's OK. We got DeMeco whispering in Casino's ear now, so things should get better.

No amount of talent is worth anything if it's not on the field.

Hopefully, the name is apt and it stings Nick every time he thinks about it and never wastes a high round on a player with injury-plagued history again.

If there is any silver lining, it has to be learning a fundamental lesson (that should have been obvious to begin with).

When he was little, Nick had multiple 3rd degree burns from touching the stovetop. After his 10th skin graft, young Nick turned to electricity. To this day, if he holds hands in a prayer circle, he completes the circuit and the light of God shines through him.

Stingley has been activated without a full week of full practice. Quite questionable until you realize that the Texans are desparate for the CB position...........so much so that as I have come to find out, another player who should not be active, will be. Nelson, who was not slated to play against due to neck and back injuries that kept him out of practice all week, is expected to be active as an emergency option at outside corner.

Good. He needs to play.

What I want out of the game is, outside of a win of course, I want to see composure. I don't want the team to get too full on "the hype" of last week. Stroud was great but the game was still won on what was tantamount to a miracle. He basically "had to" have a game like that and don't get me wrong, all the credit in the world to end up accomplishing a game like that and converting on the final drive. Sports results are mostly about circumstance----more than we'd probably like to admit and more than anything about who's "a better team" or whatever. Hence the 2 stupid losses to Atlanta and Carolina.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's a lot of room for the entire team to make improvements. Don't get too high. Don't get too low. Perform, execute, continue to get healthy so we can continue to work toward putting our intended starting lineup out there, etc.

Hope the Bengals being banged up on offense (too?) helps us out. I'd like to have some forced turnovers or defensive TDs even. Let's get those guys going.

Hopefully what the Texans took away from the Buccaneer game is that it is possible to come back. I'm a big believer in the mental side of things. Now they know it can be done.

On the downside it would not surprise me to see a letdown after the emotional win last week. Right now I think the Bengals are the more talented team. Add all the injuries & it would be a pretty significant upset for the Texans to beat the Bengals at home.

Just to show how far I've come I still think Stroud & boys might just do it.

With all the injuries in the secondary I am expecting the frustration to boil over in the gameday thread today with all the soft zones the Texans will be playing. No Jimmie Ward, Steven Nelson patched up with duct tape, the Stingley question mark. Only “reliably healthy” options are Griffin, Hollman and Thomas at CB. Pitre and Houston-Carson/Grayland Arnold at S.

I am expecting a similar game plan to the Falcons game. And the fans being frustrated watching Burrow surgically dissect that soft zone.

For what it’s worth I hope I am wrong! And as a long time Texan fan… I am good at being wrong.

This will be Stroud’s toughest game of the season. The home/road splits will be an issue until proven otherwise. But more importantly, Bengals DC Lou Anarumo is brilliant. He is responsible for giving the best QBs in the NFL fits. It took Mahomes 4 games to finally get a win over the Burrow era Bengals because of the schemes Anarumo draws up.

They are opportunistic and make plays they need to at the end of games to close the show. Ironically, the Chiefs only win in last year’s AFC championship was keyed by a rare mistake from a Bengals defender shoving Mahomes as he ran out of bounds… and shoving the Chiefs into game winning FG range.

It will be a very good learning experience for Stroud, Bobby and Ryans

Amazing rookie QB and his fans come back to earth today. I mean, come on yall, he's not gonna win every game the rest of the season. Today's a loss, but there'll be plenty more wins in store for our offensive rookie of the year.

I wonder who said CJ would win every game the rest of the season!

Last week was epic and exciting. But come on we know it’s gonna be a tall task today. Especially with all the freaking injuries.

I agree with this wont likely be a win.

However, after surfing their message board.... the last time I saw "100% No doubt we win" type posts were from Jacksonville.

If they do pull off the upset I may have to join the opposing teams forums and begin the "We cant lose" chants as if Im one of them the rest of the season.

Cincy's fanbase is a cocky bunch from what I have read. Worse than most.

Houston treated them like a red headed step child for several years.

Thousands of Ohio State fans will be in attendance Sunday, CJ will not hear any boos. They love the kid.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Bengals fans don’t love nor do they give half an ounce of sh*t about our QB. The stadium will be loud and make it hard for our offense to hear. It’s a must win for them as well!
