The way the Jags torched the secondary and their DL manhandled the Texans OL, I'm worried about this one. The Broncos are getting a huge number of turnovers and have 19 INTs.
IMO, the Texans will have to play mistake free football to win this game. Limit penalties, protect the football, no stupid play calling on offense, and NO going into a prevent defense.

Broncos should have lost against the Bills. Bills were his with a 12 man penalty that allowed kicker to correct their kick.

I am concerned about their RB and defense. Defense creates a lot of turnovers.

And the refs. Refs most of all.

Denver is coming off a 29-12 win over the Browns and their scary defense.

Denver has a one point win and (2) two point wins in their 5 game winning streak. Amazingly, a 24-9 win over the Chiefs is a part of that streak.

At first glance, Denver's defense appears to be no great shakes. 32nd (last) against the run (155.2 yds/game), 30th overall in giving up 388.2 yds/game, and 29th in giving up 25.5 points/game. However, on their 5 game winning streak, they have played dramatically better. They have +8 in giveaway/takeaway on the strength of leading the league in fumble recoveries (12), i.e. they don't turn the ball over much but cause turnovers. As mentioned above, giving up 70 to the Dolphins kind of skews everything.

Russell Wilson is quietly having a good year. Just 199.9 yds/game but with 20 TDs, 4 INTs and a 103.4 rating.

Courtland Sutton is their top receiver - 560 yards, 11.7 avg., 8 TDs. Jerry Jeudy also with 440 yds, 11.9 avg. and 1 TD.

Top rusher is Javonte Williams - 538 yards, 3.8 avg, 0 TDs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I took a solo motorcycle trip out West last year. I spent NFL Week 1 in Las Vegas, then to Reno for a couple of days. I saw the Texans were in Denver for Week 2 and scheduled that into the itinerary. It was my first and only live Texans game. I wore a denim shirt with Texan patches on it. Saw a few other Texan fans there - fist bumps, "go Texans", a bro hug from a drunk guy. Looking back, the game was kinda dull with the Texans losing 16-9.

Watching the Broncos Vs. Browns game and Wilson looks a lot like Watson. Can't make plays as they are called. Doing everything off schedule.
Perhaps we should not pressure Russell Wilson at all? Three men on the line with four backers to shut down the run and short middle and then hope our DBs can play better.

Dull game maybe but you did get to hug a drunk guy!

To much strategy.

Just have the cheerleaders give Toro a massage on the sidelines.

IF Wilson truly is like Watson... he wont be able to comcentrate on anything but envy and long for the massage.

Eheh, actually, the highlight of the day came when I was leaving the stadium and walking back to my bike. On the crowded sidewalk, there was a girl walking by herself. As I passed, I noticed she was topless. I dunno, mid-twenties, average looks, average boobs, some kind of pasties, not a fatty. (It's amazing what the human mind can process in just a glance). She had this complete look of disinterest on her face like "what am I going to have for dinner tonight?". Kinda real-life Lady Godiva stuff. Just don't see that every day unless you went to a Willie Nelson picnic back in the 70's.... I guess that's Denver for ya.... ;)

During their 5 game winning streak, the Broncos have averaged 166.6 passing yards/game. Payton has essentially neutered Russell Wilson and has him throwing everything underneath. And it's working. Zero INTs for Wilson over the streak. Getting 127 rushing yards/game has helped, as well.

But the big story in Denver has been turnovers. The Broncos are +13 in turnovers over the past 5 games. And they create turnovers by pressuring the QB. 52 pressures over the past 5 games without a big name pass rusher.

So the keys to the game seem easy. Protect Stroud, get the lead, force Payton to take the handcuffs off Wilson. Collect the sacks and turnovers. It's the protect Stroud part that's has been tricky. A big help in that regard is establishing the run.

"No, Lucky. That doesn't work. The Texans can't run the ball." True, for the most part. But the Broncos are dead last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed. And yards/attempt. Even during the winning streak, the Broncos allowed 134 yds/game rushing. If the Texans can't run against this Denver defense, they may as well go empty backfield the rest of the season.

Hate playing the Broncos esp. When we're both competing for the same spot.

Bro is a huge Broncos fan and I want them to do well and of course the Texans have a lot of ties with Denver over the years.

Oh well. Let's **** 'em up.

Heading to this one. Section 116.

Wife and I were at that game as well. From your picture there, we were about 15 rows up from the left goal post. Had a great time. If Mills could have hit the bull in the butt with a banjo we should have won that game.

We saw the same girl walking back to the hotel. She was with a couple of friends when we saw her. There was a couple of drunkards making cat calls at her and her friends were getting pissed off at them. Why, you walk around with your boobies hanging out for all to see, what do you expect. My first thought was she was on some sort of illegal substance. Anyway, my wife was like " what the hell is her problem?"

And NO, I was not the drunk that bro hugged you! lol. We had a good trip to Denver..

When I'm alone at a sporting event, I like to buy a cheap seat and do the "railbird" thing. Empower Field is one tough place to find a rail. They have those old guys walking around with "Guest Relations" on the back of their shirts (translation: "Move along, buddy").

Reminds me of this joke.

I am really expecting Stroud to be on fire at this game. Coming off a loss I can’t see him coming out flat. He will have the team in a position to win. It’s up to the other guys to make the blocks, catch the ball, run the ball, and defense to shut Wilson and co down.

Also - I want the Texans to give Payton a loss for all the stuff he said about the Texans org.

I agree with all of this. But they need to sit Pierce on the bench and keep him there. You can't be sharing carries like they keep trying to do. If you all think it's a coincidence that #26 ran the ball with authority for a couple of weeks, it's because Pierce was shelved with an injury, and they fed Devin the rock, and he got into a rhythm, and so did the line. It's all connected. You can't give a guy 6 carries in a game and think the run game is going to work. Feature #26, sit Dameon on the far end of the bench, and keep feeding Devin all game so he gets at least 20 carries...and it will work. If they try to do the same **** they did against Jax, it's likely to fail.

I think this one is more important and will tell us more about the team than last week's loss to the Jaguars. Those Jags games are so atypical of what the team is that I don't trust what I see when the Texans crush them and I don't get too upset with the Texans lose to them. Particularly true when it happens like that. What's that thing about how you respond to adversity? Well getting jobbed by the zebras is something we all have to face. Very few teams go through a season without getting shafted at least once and that was an oddly called game. Even then they probably pull that one off if Fairbairn is healthy.

This one should be very informative. How Stroud and the rest of them react to being screwed a bit and facing a decent team that is not terribly familiar to them. I predict a win but more than that I predict we see them come back with a vengeance. Texans win big this week.

Denver is beatable, but obviously, so is the Texans.

Crap refs aside, it will come down to winning trench warfare. Texans o-line is overpaid after last game, and the d-line needs someone on the other side of WA.

Broncos are due a loss, and Texans should be motivated at home after the last game got away from them.

I'm thinking replacing Howard with Scruggs is going to be a big upgrade.

Agreed. Howard is the proverbial square peg into the round hole. He's a RT. Period. Trying to stick him at LG did a disservice to him and the team. Let him heal up, and then watch him thrive at RT next year.
He's never thrived at RT. He's been avg at best and now he's the 11th highest paid OT in the NFL. SMH

I know what everybody wants Howard to be, heck I want him to be great too, but it's just not going to happen.

Texans seem to be falling apart injury wise, Stroud is only key piece who’s stayed healthy. Denver has a fierce pass rush and Fangio is a proven DC. Need help staying positive this week….. Denver 31 Texans 24.

The ol is the same as it was last week, minus Howard and plus Scruggs who will be an upgrade IMHO. What's really changed?

Fangio is good. But Vance Joseph is the Broncos DC. Fangio is in Miami.
See how much I pay attention to other team, lol but was head coach couple years ago and built most of that defensive foundation before Vance got there. Always tough out but struggled mightily on offense.

That’s what I’m afraid of (certainly not Scruggs replacing Howard) but same kicker, more pressure on Stroud and a lot of his weapons are nicked up, Dell w/calf, Robert Woods & Dalton Schultz. Not to mention Tunsil has struggled to plant & slide with his knee issue. Maybe Heck plays minutes in his first game back? It’s disconcerting to me. Plus kicker situation, don’t know if they’ve made decision yet?

The kicker situation bothers me and not just because of last game.

The OL will play better.

I watched the All 22. Big is an understatement. Scruggs lost two pass rushes to 95. Both of them he had the defender get under his pads..... and it still wasn't close to a pressure. Most the time he stood up the defender.

I am not sure what is up with Howard at guard, but he was constantly on his toes/heels. Off Balance and getting rag-dolled.

Texans are going to need a better upgrade at C in the offseason. Dieter was equally bad in second level blocking and getting shoved backwards as Howard.

Can only imagine what Chris Jones is going to do to this OL if they can get in the playoffs and that matchup occurs.

Tunsil doesn't look healthy at all to me. He just looked slow and unexplosive. Usually he is very aggressive with edge defenders.

Yep, hopefully they won't have to play 4 centers and 3 Left guards next season.

Agreed about Tunsil, he doesn't look like himself. I bet he has surgery on that knee this off-season.
